X is the base, a is the exponent of the base

eg. X to the power of a

2² = 2 X 2 = 4

2³ = 2 X 2 X 2 = 8

Adding and Subtracting Exponents

2³ + 2² = 8 + 4 = 12

2³ + 2² = 8 - 4 = 4

Multiplying and Diving Exponents

2³ X 2² = 2³⁺² = 2⁵ = 32
